About Minted’s Textile Wall Art

Though each piece is slightly different and has its own subtle imperfections, all of Minted’s textile art is…

  • Printed on 100% cotton, unbleached heavyweight canvas with natural fraying edge.
  • Float mounted on a linen fabric matboard in vintage white.
  • Printed in India using hand-carved wooden blocks.
  • Available in either 24”x 30” and 30”x30,” depending on the orientation of the piece. (This is not customizable, but you can check out our guide to choosing the right art size to ensure the piece will look as you envision it in your space.)
  • Framed with non-reflective UV-Plexiglass, archival materials, and pre-installed hanging hardware.

Adding An Exquisite Accent to Your Wall with Textile Art

From ceremonial cloths to rugs and tapestries, textile art has been a part of the fabric of human creative expression for thousands of years. Minted is proud to present you this artistic tradition with our selection of textile art from our global network of independent artists. Hand crafted in India using ancient block printing techniques, each piece of textile art brings a worldly charm to any space. All pieces of textile art are protected by non-reflective UV-plexi glass to keep textiles pristine and come complete with a matching frame selected by Minted’s team of stylists.

Minted’s Textile Wall Art by Independent Artists

Whether your interior style is eclectic, traditional, or mid-century modern, a framed textile art piece from Minted is sure to become a new favorite in any room…and a beautiful accent on any gallery wall.

All of our framed textile art is handmade using an artisanal block printing technique (which you can learn more about below) on 100% cotton canvas. Minted’s team of expert stylists have worked carefully with both our independent artists and our block printers to thoughtfully select the size and shape of each piece of art to ensure the artist’s original vision is captured. Once the design is finalized, textiles are hand printed, float mounted on acid- and lignin-free linen matboard, and placed in a solid wood frame picked to coordinate perfectly with each design. The result? Pieces of art that are instant conversation starters.

Block Printing Technique

The technique used to create Minted’s textile art is one that has been perfected in India by generations of craftsmen and women. It is believed that Indian artists first began to use the exacting technique in the 12th century, after it was introduced by Chinese traders and artisans. In the near-millenia since, block printing has become one of the most recognizable cultural touchstones of India, and is in large part responsible for the huge vocabulary of beautiful patterns associated with Indian art and architecture.

Though a predecessor to modern techniques like screen printing, to this day, much of the block printing process is done by hand. Each piece of Minted’s textile art begins as a paper design that artisans carefully trace on a smooth block of wood, where the pattern is hand-carved into a stamp. Individual blocks must be carved to account for each design element, sometimes numbering into the hundreds for pieces that incorporate a large color palette or have intricate small details. Once the blocks have been created, the artists then prepare the canvas and mix the pigments (which were historically sourced from local plants and minerals) into dye.

To produce the pattern, blocks are then dipped into the dye and pressed with firm precision onto the canvas. For pieces with multiple colors or design elements that overlap, artisans must wait for each layer to be completely dry before applying the next with a new stamp. Depending on the design, the fabric or canvas may then be washed to remove any excess dye. Pieces are then trimmed and sent back to Minted’s expert team of framers, where they are float mounted and readied for their new homes.

Each step of this process is done by hand by artisans, which is why no two pieces of our framed textile art are identical!
